It was 2018, and Megan Thee Stallion was grinding with her Houston-based label, 1501. While she hadn’t broken into mainstream radio yet, she was definitely making waves across Texas. Meanwhile, in Dallas, Erica Banks was looking up to Meg. You can see just how much she admired her in a resurfaced tweet where she called Meg her “alter ego.”

Two years later, Megan would find herself in the most controversial period of her life, dealing with the fallout from the incident with Tory Lanez and facing legal battles with her label, 1501.
“I got real lawyers, and they were like, ‘Do you know that this is in your contract?’ And I was like, ‘Oh that’s crazy, no I didn’t know.’ As soon as I said I wanna renegotiate my contract, everything went left. It just went all bad.”
Carl Crawford, the owner of 1501, signed Erica Banks after her viral hit “Buss It.” Allegedly, he was trying to use Erica to replicate Megan’s rap style and essence. Fans quickly noticed and called out Erica for copying Meg’s style and even unfollowing her on social media. Despite the backlash, Erica denied having any malicious intentions.
“It was never an issue, which is why I was following her…but people get things misconstrued but that’s another story.”

Most would say this is “all business ” and not personal, but Erica, in 2024, still has a “rap bone” to pick with Megan.
” It’s a big Difference Between Me and You”
Over the weekend, a clip of Erica throwing shots at Megan has been going viral, sparking rumors of a brewing beef. When Erica, also known as “The Flow Queen,” was asked how she felt about Megan freestyling to the “I Think I Love Her” beat, just like she did, she responded hastily:
It’s a big difference between me and you
There’s talk of Erica challenging Megan to a freestyle battle, but with Megan currently selling out arenas on her ‘Hot Girl Summer’ tour, I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Both Erica Banks and Megan Thee Stallion left 1501 due to alleged shady business practices. Erica could benefit more from collaborating with Megan instead of feuding with her. What are your thoughts on this? Is Erica keeping the competitive nature of hip-hop alive by calling out Megan or is this played out?
