She is the second black woman to be honored with the award.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame is honoring SZA with the Hal David Starlight Award, which is all about shining a light on young songwriters. It’s a big deal considering SZA’s already bagged three Grammy Awards for her second album “SOS” and was crowned Variety’s Hitmaker of the Year back in 2023.
SZA had an incredible 2023, matching the achievements of the best in the business.
It all kicked off with “Kill Bill,” dominating the top 5 of the Hot 100 for months, eventually soaring to #1 once Doja Cat hopped on for the remix.
just when the buzz around “Kill Bill” started to simmer, “Snooze” stormed the charts, claiming the title of her biggest chart hit to date. The track is still holding strong, gearing up for an impressive 70th week on the Hot 100.
Today’s announcement revealed that she’s set to receive this year’s Hal David Starlight Award. The ceremony will take place on June 13 at the Songwriters Hall Of Fame Awards in New York City.
Responding to the news on her Instagram Story, SZA shared,
“This means the world to me, you wouldn’t believe. THANK YOU so much for recognizing me in this way.”
